Transfer Funds

What should I know about Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF)?
Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) provides limited protection for property held by a member firm on behalf of an eligible client, if the member firm becomes insolvent. CIPF serves to shield investors like you in case the investment dealer where you’ve entrusted your funds or investments faces insolvency.
For an individual holding an account or accounts with a member firm, the limits on CIPF protection are generally as follows:
- $1 million for all general accounts combined (such as cash accounts, margin accounts, TFSAs and FHSAs), plus
- $1 million for all registered retirement accounts combined (such as RRSPs, RRIFs and LIFs), plus
- $1 million for all registered education savings plans (RESPs) combined where the client is the subscriber of the plan.
What will happen to my funds and securities if I close my account with Authentic?
We are committed to delivering services that inspire your continued partnership, yet we acknowledge that sometimes certain circumstances may lead you to discontinue our Portfolio Management Services. If such a situation arises, you have the option to request Interactive Brokers to revoke our trading authorization. Following this, you may opt to utilize the Interactive Brokers platform for self-directed investing or transition to another provider of your choice.

We value your privacy and uphold the highest global standards, aligning with PIPEDA and other applicable regulations to safeguard your personal information. While we may be required to retain certain data for a specified period in compliance with regulations, rest assured that we diligently purge such information once it is no longer necessary.
